Well, it's New Year's Eve. This year, the 2680th year of the Emperor, will be over in a few hours. But I'm already in a hurry, and I'm afraid that it's going to be January 3rd before I know it.

Well, to sum up this year, I would say that Youtube is a big part of it. I didn't watch so much Youtube before, and more than anything, this year I've been working hard on releasing Music Video and Lyric Video as a transmitter.

Hard Freeze" is now available.

 

When we released the Music Video for "Hard Freeze" the other day, there was a time lag between the release of the music video and the announcement because we had more important things to inform you about than the announcement, but it's okay this time.

Spicy Giant Corn Chili Pepper and Garlic Pepper

 

As I wrote in "The Lying Thieving Cat," I'm determined to ride the big wave of appetite with the skill of a professional surfer, but late last night, I was as hungry as a caterpillar, so I rushed out to the convenience store.

And then I found it! In a corner of 7-Eleven, there's a dangerous thing that's spreading its violent charm to the world!

It's a "Spicy Giant Corn Chili Pepper and Garlic Pepper". In a quiet 7-Eleven store, the only place I could hear the sound of "gogo gogo gogo..." was where this product was placed. Maybe.

As you can see from the photo, this is an empty bag. I realized that I hadn't taken a picture of the empty bag after I had almost rushed home from the convenience store and devoured it with all my might, so I took a picture of the empty bag.

The giant cone alone is sure to be on the "Ultimate Menu" of the Tozai Shimbun's 100th anniversary project, which the entire company is working on. It's no exaggeration to say that this is the "ultimate and supreme" menu, isn't it, Mr. Ohara?

New Version Revision

 

News of a book with a rather intriguing title came in.

New edition of the book "The Music Lover's Brain: Why People Get Hooked on Music" released

It's called "The Music Lover's Brain: Why People Get Hooked on Music," and I'm really attracted to it.

When I went to Amazon's product page, I found out that it will be released on January 17, 2021, and is currently available for pre-order. However, on the same page, in the "People who checked this item also checked these items" section, there was a book with the same title but a different cover.

I wondered what was going on, and when I looked at it, I found that it was the same title, same author and translator, but the release date was March 1, 2010. Then I noticed that the new edition is a "new edition," as it says at the top of the title. In other words, it's a book that has already been released, but it's being released again with a new look.

So, what about the contents? When I hear the word "new edition," I feel as if the contents have been revised, but to be precise, such a thing is called "revision" because the edition is changed. But to be precise, it's called a "revision" because it's a change of edition. A "new edition" purely means a "new publication," which may or may not have additions and corrections.

I don't know if this new edition is revised or not, but it's not always better to be revised, so I might as well buy the old edition. The first thing you do when you wake up is to excitedly search for the date of the day, right?

For many years, I almost never drank chuhai, but recently (in the past year or so) I've been buying it a lot when I'm having a drink at home.

I think "Kodawari Sakaba Lemon Sour" is probably the most purchased canned chuhai by me.

I buy my drinks at the nearest convenience store, but when I went to the supermarket the other day, I peeked into the liquor section without thinking and was surprised.

This chuhai is priced at 192 yen (excluding tax) at the convenience store, but at the supermarket it was priced at 145 yen (excluding tax). So I went to the supermarket next door and checked the price, and it was also 145 yen (excluding tax).

The price of beer is basically the same no matter where you buy it, so I was really shocked because I've always been a beer drinker and thought that the price of alcohol is the same no matter where you buy it.

A lying, thieving cat

 

For the past few days, I've been so hungry that I can hardly stand it.

I just wrote the other day that I've been trying to cut down on the amount of food I eat for lunch, but if anyone who read that article saw me now, they would probably shout with all their might, "You lying, thieving cat! Placebo

 I'm currently reading through "Anatomy of Alternative Medicine" in every possible gap of time, and I can't help but look at "Golden Apples of the Sun" which is standing by to be read next.

At any rate, I've read through the part where the results of scientific clinical trials concluded that the effects of "acupuncture" are almost entirely due to the placebo (placebo) effect.

So I guess the acupuncture that cured me of my back pain in one shot was actually a placebo effect.

What I'm wondering is that the same practitioner also examined me on another occasion for the neck muscle discrepancy I wrote about in the article above. Not with acupuncture, but with an osteopathic technique. I think my trust in that practitioner was quite high, but that one had no effect at all. If it was due to the placebo effect, it would have cured me, too.

Well, I can't confirm or deny with just one experience. It is because of this that "scientific clinical trials" are conducted in order to obtain reliable conclusions.

By the way, there used to be a band called Placebo, didn't there? I never really got into the band, but for some reason I had one of their CDs, and when I went to visit my friends' houses, there was a very high probability that they would have that CD, and they would always reply that they hadn't really listened to it. Supergrass has a lot of good songs, don't they? I used to listen to the two albums in the top picture quite a lot. I think they are the first and the second.

There are some bands that I love their music and have listened to their albums a lot, but I don't know their members' names, faces, nationalities, or even their instrumentation. I really don't know anything about them except for the songs on these two albums.

I haven't listened to them much lately, but I suddenly remembered that they broke up in 2010, and then reunited in 2019. So it looks like they are still active. I thought it was a 3-piece band because the cover of the album I own shows a 3-piece band, but it seems to be a 4-piece band at least now.

I had a vague idea that it must be a British band, but it turned out to be a British band. It's very "Britpop", isn't it?

 It's so cold. It's so cold that I don't know what's going on anymore.

Until about three years ago, I used to travel around Tokyo almost entirely by car (if I didn't drink alcohol). Riding a single car in this cold weather seems like an unimaginable hardship, but until three years ago, I was willingly throwing myself into that hardship. I don't understand it at all.

By the way, when I say it's cold in December or January, people often say, "Actually, the coldest month is February! But the coldest month is January. Sound of thunder

 

After I wrote the article on the Butterfly Effect, I picked up this book, The Golden Apple of the Sun. This is a collection of science fiction short stories written by Ray Bradbury, and I had read "The Sound of Thunder" included in this collection when I was a child, so I decided to read the original story again.

I read "The Sound of Thunder" when I was a child, probably in elementary school, and of course it was a children's book, but the ending was so horrible that it left an impression on me. I think the title was "The Sound of a Hammer". I think the title was "The Sound of a Hammer," and the unfamiliar word "hammer" gave me an eerie feeling.

I won't go into details because it would be a spoiler, but it's a science fiction short story based on the so-called "butterfly effect," and the ending made me think "Oh..." even as a child. Oh..." even as a child. I always thought that the "butterfly effect" came from the story of the novel "Sound of Thunder". But in fact, it was the other way around, and the "Sound of Thunder" was derived from the "Butterfly Effect. Pre-reading Comments

 

I received a copy of Simon Singh's "Anatomy of an Alternative Medicine" and started reading it immediately. I've only read the preface, but I already know the main idea and conclusion of the book, as there are plenty of spoilers and impressions of the book lying around.

This book is a scientific study and evaluation of alternative medicine such as acupuncture and chiropractic, and as for my own experience with alternative medicine, I have been impressed by its effectiveness on two occasions.

The first time was acupuncture for a sprained back. The day after I got it, I could hardly walk, but I managed to get to a local acupuncture clinic by clinging to a single car, and after receiving acupuncture, I recovered at once. I was told that acupuncture does not directly cure the bad part of the body, but encourages the body's power to recover. By the way, right after I got acupuncture, I was anemic and couldn't get up for a while.

The second time was for physical therapy for a mis-sleep. I went to an osteopath because I had been experiencing pain in the back of my neck for a few years, and it was restricting my movement. I went to an osteopath, who gave me a rather standard treatment and then said, "It's healed, right? I told him that I still had some pain in the back of my body, and it was amazing from there. I was repeatedly attacked like a Mongolian chop by Killer Khan, to the point where my neck was seriously ripped off, and the treatment for that day ended with me looking like a rag with no idea what was going on. For a few days after I returned home, the pain in my neck was so bad that I couldn't even move it, but when the pain subsided, the original misuse of my neck was completely healed. Incidentally, right after the treatment, I had anemia and could not get up for a while.

Since these are the two so-called alternative treatments that I recognize as "definitely effective," my current conclusion is that "alternative treatments that cause anemia are effective.

I wonder how reading this book will change that. Or will it not?

The Coming Wave of Digitization

 

I'm sure you read about 100 or 200 books a month. I know that. I know that you are reading about 300 or 400 books a month.

So, what do you use to read those books? I mean "e-books" or "paper books"?

I'm not greedy and I don't want to have more things around me, but I always buy paper books. I always buy paper books because "the screen of a smartphone is too small to read a large amount of text.

I've already cancelled my iPad because I don't use it often enough, so if I want to read e-books, I'll use my phone or an e-reader, but I think it's hard to "glance over a two-page spread" on a phone screen. Well, I've never bought an e-book before, so I'm just imagining. Also, I think it would be a pain to go back and read the previous part of the book while keeping the current reading position. I'm sure there's a bookmark function for that anyway, though.

The problem with e-readers is that there are so many different types. It's a pain in the ass to figure out which one is best for something you don't really feel the need for. If there were only one type of e-reader in the world, I would buy one and give it a try.

By the way, a little bit of research shows that the publishing market (sales) in 2019 will be "4:1" for paper books and e-books. It seems that e-books are expanding their market share rapidly, so it may not be long before the ratio reverses.

By the way, in the music market, the ratio of "music software (packaged): music distribution (digital)" is 76:24, or about 3:1, so it seems that the digitization of music is more advanced. However, there's not as much difference between music and books as I thought.

I think I'll try buying an e-book next time.

I wrote about Simon Singh's "Anatomy of an Alternative Medicine" in "This Crush of Mine", and of course, I snapped it up right then and there.

As you know, the Enigma is a rotor-type encryption machine used by Nazi Germany during World War II. The Enigma, which had been sleeping on the ocean floor for more than 70 years, has been found. I thought that the actual Enigma was commonly existing, but it's not.

It's a BOSS feeling, isn't it?

I'm talking about effects pedals.

BOSS is a leading Japanese brand of effects pedals by Roland, and there is definitely a BOSS-like sound to it. I used to use BOSS BD-2 (Blues Driver) a long time ago when I was using JazzMaster, but I don't think I've used any BOSS effect pedals since I started using humbucker guitars. I don't like humbuckers because I think they have more of a "BOSS feel" to them.

Then I happened to find an interesting video.

According to this video, changing the solder on the board and the wiring materials used will eliminate (reduce) the BOSS feeling. Even if the difference in sound that can be seen in the video is small, what's important is the player's experience. The person playing it says, "Oh! Whether it feels good or not has a huge impact on my performance.

Although I'm not good at the BOSS-esque sound, there's no doubt that BOSS effectors are extremely excellent, and I sometimes wonder if I can't use them well. I'm always frustrated when I'm a humbucker.

But I've been thinking for a long time that the so-called "BOSS feeling" might be greatly influenced by the way it looks. HANOI ROCKS and Motörhead

 

I'm sure you must have dreamed at least twice or thrice about what the band would be like if HANOI ROCKS and Motörhead were combined. But I can't stop plummeting with surprise that Lemmy actually offered to play a band in Hanoi when Rasul died and Sam Jaffa left the band, and that "Motorhead will be the backing band".

There are many starry-eyed bands influenced by HANOI ROCKS and Motörhead, but to be honest, HANOI ROCKS and Motörhead don't have much in common. There is a video of Michael Monroe (vo. of HANOI ROCKS) jumping in, but I don't really get it. Michael Monroe doesn't seem to fit in with songs that are too macho. You know, I don't think he's the right guy for you.

But Michael Monroe singing a Motörhead song is not so great, but Lemmy playing a HANOI ROCKS song is not so great. I wonder who was playing drums in Motörhead at the time. That's right around the time when Filthy left, right? Whoever the drummer was, if Lemmy played "Cheyenne" or "11th Street Kids," which is one of the most heartbreaking songs in Hanoi, I'd die in agony. But it could be scarily cool, I guess.

The Current State of Kanashibari Radio

 

How many of you remember the podcast program "Kanashibari Radio"? It's one of the podcasts I started around August of this year with the idea of "Let's develop a second, third, or even a hundredth expansion of daily articles in order to maximize the effectiveness and value of this note.

This podcast program used to play Kanashibari's music after reading out the contents of this note's articles by automatic speechreading software.

But when it was discovered that Spotify Podcast couldn't play music, the only two distributors were Apple Podcast and Google Podcast, and SoundCloud, which I was using as a distribution server, had a capacity limit if it was a free version, the project was abandoned.

Kanashibari Radio, you know.

I was actually experimenting with the Japanese version of "Kanashibari Radio" by distributing only Kanashibari songs every day. But it was only the music, so the contents of the note are no longer relevant at all. In order to deliver a song every day, you need to upload a song to SoundCloud, which is its server, but as I mentioned above, there is a limit to the capacity of SoundCloud. That's why we kept trying to keep a total of 10 songs uploaded to SoundCloud, and replaced one song every day. That way, a different song would be available every day, and we wouldn't get caught in the space limit.

Aside from the effect of the podcast distribution, SoundCloud itself, which I'm using as a server, has been gaining a lot of followers recently, little by little. I think they're probably all from overseas, and since we've only been using SoundCloud as a server, we haven't been doing any advertising at all.

We don't care if they listen to us directly from SoundCloud or through podcasts, so we're grateful for that. Maybe this is the point we should focus on, but we don't know what to do with SoundCloud.

Why it's commonplace

Speaking of music videos, one of the biggest differences between music videos is the inclusion or exclusion of the artist's name or song title in the video. As a viewer, it doesn't really matter to me, though. In my case, a long time ago, I used to ask a video editor, "Can I have the data for the song title and band logo? It was only when I was told, as a matter of course, that I realized this.
If you're given the choice of "To include the name of the artist or the name of the song or not to include it" when you're not thinking about it, most people will probably say "Yes". I think it would be a waste of time if you don't put it in..." or something like that.
Of course it doesn't matter if you include it or not, but I felt that many filmmakers think it's natural to include the name of the band or song in a music video without thinking about it, so I looked up music videos of various artists and bands a while ago.
I found that, at least as far as the music videos are concerned, domestic artists tend to put the name of the artist or song in their videos, while foreign artists often do not put the name of the artist or song in their videos.
We cannot interview the artists themselves, so we do not know why. I can't form a hypothesis, but I can only wonder if Japanese people are that meticulous, so I can't form a hypothesis.
I don't know what it is, but this phenomenon is happening around me at home and abroad.
